£20m Perthshire sailing resort planned
A £20m sailing resort, designed by architect Eric Strickland – senior partner at McKenzie Strickland Associates – is being planned at Croft na Caber at Loch Tay in rural Perthshire.
Strickland submitted the plans with his business partner Paul Sale, through their Strathtay Developments vehicle.
The redevelopment plans – which follow two years of consultation – include a sailing school, a restaurant, kids’ club, a health spa and a swimming pool.
The project is supposedly a lifetime dream of Strickland's, as he learnt to sail at Croft na Caber as a teen.
“Our aim is to preserve the tranquillity that makes the area special, while breathing new life into a resort which is outdated and no longer meets expectations in terms of accommodation and facilities," he said.
“We are confident our designs will unlock the potential of the existing resort through a long-term, sustainable development that compliments the stunning setting of Loch Tay."
The development will include one, two, three and four-bedroom holiday accommodation units, and the buildings would harness green technology including geothermal heating from the loch and biomass conversion.
Strathtay Developments, which bought Croft na Caber two years ago, estimate that if the project receives planning permission, work could begin next autumn.
