The decision on whether to go ahead with the construction of a $200m (£132m, €189m) arena in Virginia Beach will be made following a public vote on 8 December.
The project will be built and operated by private development group United States Management (USM), subject to the vote, while $76.5m (£50.6m, €72m) from the city’s Tourism Development Program will be spent on infrastructure improvements such as roads, parking, public plaza, lighting, underground utilities and streetscapes.
During a community meeting on Friday, representatives from USM revealed details of the proposal, which included a 16,500-18,000 seater arena that could accommodate hockey and basketball. It also has the ability to expand its capacity.
Sports architect firm AECOM Sports is on board to design the arena.
According to USM, which is an affiliate of the ESG Companies, the construction of the arena will create 2,300 new jobs and account for $240m (£159m, €220m) on salaries, materials and services.
The 8 December vote will be preceded by formal public hearing on 1 December.
