Revised Hatfield revamp plans submitted
Developer St Modwen has submitted revised plans to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) for the multi-million pound town centre regeneration scheme in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
The proposed revamp, which is being led by St Modwen in partnership with the council and the Homes and Communities Agency, will include around 80,000sq ft (7,432sq m) of space for retail, restaurants and cafés. New community and public toilet facilities, nearly 100 residential units and a bus interchange are also being proposed as part of the project, which aims to create a vibrant new centre for Hatfield.
St Modwen regional director Rupert Wood said: "When we started looking at how to revise the original scheme, we reviewed feedback from the previous consultation and also talked to local businesses, councillors and stakeholders about what they wanted from the town. "In the design, we've taken on board a lot of these comments, including the need for enhanced safety, for a modern retail offer, for life to be brought back to the town and for improved public transport access."
WHBC has also announced it will launch a new public forum for major projects in order to create a more transparent planning process. Revised plans for the transformation of Hatfield will be the first scheme to go before the Development Consultation Forum on 8 March.
