US$45m Texas Typhoon waterpark sets official opening date
An under-development US$45m (€41.2m, £31.1m) waterpark in Katy, Texas, has been set an opening date of 28 May.
The waterpark is due to open on schedule after breaking ground in August last year. Project leaders have called it the “most exciting recreational and entertainment venue” to be built in the region in the last 50 years.
Designed and supplied by WhiteWater West and Brannon Corp, Typhoon Texas will offer a range of rides and attractions, including WhiteWater’s Slideboarding gaming experience.
The attraction follows a Texan theme and features five slide towers with 1.3 miles (2km) of slides for visitors to make a splash. The park’s signature Lone Star Racers and Duelin’ Daltons slides have already been installed, while work is also underway on a 25,000sq ft (2,300sq m) wave pool and a lazy river.
The 43-acre (17-hectare) waterpark is situated close by to Katy Mills mall, which is acting as an anchor for a number of mixed-use projects including a convention centre, hotel, retail, offices and homes.
Houston-based construction firm KDW is handling development of the waterpark, while Dallas-based Texas Capital Bank has funded the multi-million dollar venture.
