Trump Tower designed by Mixity to open in Azerbaijan this month
Mixity Design’s 33-floor Trump International Hotel & Tower in Baku, Azerbaijan, is to open this month. It will have 72 luxury residences and 189 hotel rooms.
The London-based studio’s design features an exterior facade with a distinctive silhouette resembling “the mast of a sail in high seas”, and is comprised of metallic bronze panels, glass openings, and private terraces.
Neighbouring the Zaha Hadid-designed Heydar Aliyev Center, the tower is sited on 20,000sq m (215,278sq ft) of land and is surrounded by gardens, fountains and promenades, while offering views of the city and the Caspian Sea.
When announced in November 2014, Donald Trump, chairman and president of The Trump Organization, said the property would “be among the finest in the world”. The tower will feature a 1,409sq m (15,166sq ft) spa with indoor swimming pools, a 400sq m (4,305sq ft) fitness centre, as well as a ballroom, business centre, retail space and a restaurant.
Mixity’s design is based on “neutral grey and deep brown tones and soft textures punctuated with high notes of purple, blues and black”. Polished metal, beveled mirror and crisp stonework contrast with the soft textiles and furnishings, according to the company, while each interior space features varying shades and finishes of natural stone, wood veneers, and lacquered surfaces.
Baku-based owner and developer Garant Holding worked with The Trump Organization on the project, while London-based James Architecture provided consulting services to Mixity Design.
