Second Women’s Sport Week pencilled in for October
Equality body Women in Sport will launch a fundraising campaign to encourage more females into physical activity during the second Women’s Sport Week.
Starting on 3 October, the week will showcase women’s sport from the grassroots to elite level. Events will be designed to generate debate between members of the sport sector, and to demonstrate how women and girls can “reach their full potential through sport”.
Women in Sport will also use the week to publish its annual sponsorship audit to highlight the importance of commercial investment in women’s sport, while Sport England will ramp up its This Girl Can campaign.
In addition, the BBC and Sky Sports have committed to devoting more broadcasting time to women’s sport throughout the week.
Ruth Holdaway, Women in Sport chief executive, said last year’s Women’s Sport Week was “a hugely successful campaign”.
“With our partners, we can reach out to the whole community – women and men, girls and boys, those who are already passionate supporters of women’s sport and those who have yet to discover how brilliant it can be,” she added. “We hope many more people will learn about opportunities for women in sport, champion our work and join in.”
