Disney has debuted its first fully-fledged Frozen attraction, with the Frozen Ever After boat ride at Epcot garnering lines more than five hours long on its opening day.
Replacing the Norway section of Epcot’s Maelstrom viking boat ride, the immersive world has been completely revamped to a Frozen theme, with new special effects, lighting, and animatronic figures based on the movie’s characters. The ride’s main elements have been retained, with the signature drop still included as Elsa conjures a cold wind sending riders down a chute. The ride features all of the major characters in the film, as well as the popular song “Let it Go”.
According to Disney Imagineering creative executive Kathy Mangum, the audio-animatronic characters included in the redeveloped ride use the same cutting-edge facial technology used on the Vekoma-designed Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride at Magic Kingdom.
Disney sees Frozen Ever After as a huge shot in the arm for Epcot, which has comparatively low visitor numbers (11.4m) compared to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom (19.3m).
