The Walt Disney Company is reportedly planning to open a Star Wars-based theme park in Disney World Florida by 2018.
Disney acquired production company Lucasfilm in a deal worth US$4.05bn (3.11bn euro, £2.5bn) and already has attractions based on Lucasfilm movies at parks in Anaheim, Florida, Paris and Tokyo.
Theme Park Insider has reported that "multiple sources" have said that a remake of Disney's Hollywood Studios park will now include Cars Land and Star Wars Land.
Cars land will reportedly replace the Lights, Motors, Action auto stunt show as well as Catastrophe Canyon on the southern edge of the park. Star Wars Land would replace the Muppet Theatre and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids play area.
Chair and CEO of Disney, Robert A. Iger has previously stated following the Lucasfilm purchase that "We have ample opportunity to expand the franchise in our parks."
In addition, Disney has previously surveyed fans about building a Star Wars attraction.
Disney is currently working on the movie Star Wars: Episode VII and is yet to confirm reports that a Star Wars theme park is in the works.
