Chuck Blazer, a former top Fifa official embroiled in the bribery scandal that saw former president Sepp Blatter resign earlier this week, has admitted that he and others accepted bribes for the choice of South Africa in the 2010 World Cup and for France in the 1998 World Cup.
A newly released transcript from a 2013 US hearing, details the American pleading guilty to 10 charges over bribery.
Last week 14 Fifa and ex-Fifa members were indicted on charges of bribery, racketeering and money laundering. Four others had already been charged, including Blazer. The US justice departments is alleging bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than US$150m (€132m, £97m) over a 24-year period.
In another development regarding the Fifa scandal, former vice-president Jack Warner, who is among those charged, has said he had documents linking Fifa officials to the 2010 election in Trinidad and Tobago. The admissions by Blazer are part of a sentencing deal with prosecutors.
