Boston Four Seasons is now the city’s third-tallest building

By Luke Cloherty    15 Aug 2018
Offering sweeping views of Boston from its hotel rooms and apartments, the building will have reduced corridors to offer residents ultimate privacy

The developer behind a new Four Seasons hotel and residential unit has called it “the finest and most architecturally-significant skyscraper ever built in Boston, ushering in a new era of modern development and elevating the standard of luxury living” in the US city.

Richard L. Friedman, president and CEO of Carpenter & Company, said of Four Seasons Hotel & Private Residences One Dalton Street: “Watching this unprecedented, architectural landmark soar into the sky has been especially thrilling, and we are pleased to have such a meaningful impact on the city and its skyline.

The building has just reached its peak of 742ft, making it Boston’s third-largest building, behind 200 Clarendon Street – at 790ft – and Prudential Tower – at 749ft.

The architecture team was led by Henry N. Cobb of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, who designed the city’s aforementioned tallest building over 40 years ago.

The building takes the form of a soft triangle. Offering sweeping views of Boston from its hotel rooms and apartments, the building will have reduced corridors to offer residents ultimate privacy.

The design of its bay windows mimics those found in the Back Bay area of Boston, and create multi-directional panoramas.

The tower is being built by Suffolk Construction and is anchored 165 feet deep into bedrock. It has an expected completion date of 2019.

The hotel will have 215 rooms, while the residential block will have 160 private residences perched on the tower’s uppermost floors. The residential lobby is being designed by Thierry Despont.
