Council: Chelsea stadium expansion 'is possible'
Hammersmith and Fulham Council (HFC) has said that a proposed expansion of London's Stamford Bridge stadium, the home of Chelsea Football Club (CFC), would be possible.
It comes after the Premier League club revealed earlier this month that a complete rebuild of Stamford Bridge to provide a new 60,000-seat stadium had "little chance of acceptability".
CFC cited an anticipated cost of more than £600m and "insurmountable" planning risks for being unable to proceed with the proposals, although HFC has insisted the project could be achieved.
HFC deputy leader Nick Botterill said: "Stamford Bridge is Chelsea's historic home and the council believes it should be their future home."
Botterill also said it could cost more than £600m if CFC decided to relocate, with Battersea Power Station thought to be among the potential locations if the club does decide to move.
