Aberdeen Sports Village appoints new chief executive
Aberdeen Sports Village has announced the appointment of Duncan Sinclair as its new chief executive.
Sinclair will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of Aberdeen Sports Village, ensuring the sports facility continues to provide opportunities for everyone in the community, in addition to attracting national and international sporting competition to Aberdeen.
With more than 30 years’ experience working in the industry, Sinclair, who moves from Sport Aberdeen where he was operations director, brings a wealth of knowledge to the role.
“The success of Aberdeen Sports Village to date is largely down to the people side of the business in ensuring our best-in-class facilities are backed up by first class customer service,” said Aberdeen Sports Village chair George Yule.
“Duncan has a solid background knowledge of managing and developing sports and leisure facilities, a positive personality and good communication and people skills – all of which will add further value to an already extremely successful organisation.
The Sports Village, which opened in 2009 at a cost of £28m, is the result of a joint venture by funding partners the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council and sportscotland.
Facilities at the complex include a 135m six-lane running straight, an indoor 3G football pitch, an indoor sports hall and the 820sq m (8,826sq ft) Energy Zone, which incorporates 75 stations of CV equipment, 30 resistance machines, and a dedicated free weights area. The Village was upgraded in 2014, with the addition of the £22m Aquatics Centre designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects.
