ADDleisure plans rollout of high street fitness studios

02 Mar 2006

ADDleisure, the AIM-listed company formed to develop products and services in the health and leisure sector, has revealed plans to open a chain of high street fitness and wellbeing studios.

Measuring between 1,000sq ft (90sq m) and 1,500sq ft (140sq m), the studios will be designed to offer 20-minute fitness sessions. Initially, they will combine Power Plate training – which uses vibration technology to stimulate muscular and circulatory responses – with ADDleisure’s Fitbug personal programmes, which measure aerobic activity and nutrition.

The group is currently negotiating for a pilot site in London, following the success of the Power Plate training studio in Crawford Street, London W1, which opened in January 2005 to demonstrate the equipment to buyers.

By combining the equipment with Fitbug, the company intends to offer a holistic apporach to fitness and wellbeing, which it believes will fit into urban lifestyles.

ADDleisure has also recently announced the US$608,000 (£350,000) sale of its 41.8 per cent stake in marketing and distribution company Liberation Fitness Systems, following Liberation’s merger with Power Plate International and Power Plate North America.

Allan Fisher, chair of ADDleisure and the founder and former CEO of Holmes Place, said: “In the fitness and wellbeing studios we have identified a concept which we believe can add significant value to the company. The Power Plate agreement means we can lock in a substantial profit from the sale of our stake on Liberation and also develop the studio concept following the encouraging signs at Crawford Street.”

ADDleisure is run by CEO David Turner, founder and former director of LA Fitness, and David Cummin, founder and former director of membership software provider Membertrack. Details: www.addleisure.com
